The Vieille Julienne 2000 Châteauneuf du Pape Réserve may be greatest Châteauneuf I have ever tasted when one considers its possible longevity and awesome potential. It has everything - a deep ruby/purple color, an extraordinary nose of blackberries, sweet kirsch, licorice, and flowers, a voluptuous, full-bodied personality with laser-like precision, amazing purity and depth, and a finish that goes on for over a minute.  

Vieille Julienne’s 2000 Réserve is a perfect wine by any standard of measurement. While still young, its extraordinary concentration of old vine Grenache, and the nakedness and purity of expression represent a tour de force in winemaking. You just want to stand up and salute this beauty it is so perfect, pure, and complex. 

It's hard to believe any wine, whether from the Rhône Valley or any other appellation on Earth could be any better than this extraordinary offering.

The perfect rating reflect the fact that I do not believe any Châteauneuf du Pape, or for that matter, any wine, could be any better. ... offered thrilling complexity, extraordinary aromatics, and incredibly well-balanced richness, with great intensity yet phenomenal purity, definition, and overall harmony.
