This Rare 1961 Vintage was an Excellent one - The 1961 Vintage was an Excellent one for all of Bordeaux , and Especially the Right-bank Wines from Saint-Emilion and Pomerol. This 1961 Chateau Clos des Jacobins has been rated a High * * * * * - 5 Stars ( Outstanding ) by Michael Broadbent, Famous Author and Wine Critic. Here is what he says about the Outstanding 1961 Bordeaux Vintage : 1961 - One of the Greatest post-war vintages to date and one of the Best of the twentieth century. The Top 1961s became the Gold dust of the wine world. As with the 1945 vintage , quality was due more to luck than management. The pre-harvest Sun brought them to full maturity , thickening the skins to a good depth of colour. The harvest began at the end of September. The Hallmarks of the 1961s are Intensity of colouur , concentrated bouquet , sweetness , high-extract , flesh , and tannin , acidity levels enabling long-keeping , and Great length. Excellent Wines. * * * * * - 5 Stars - Michael Broadbent. Additional Information : Owned by Alain Borde, this important St-Emilion property takes its name from the 13th century Dominican Monastery that was previously built on the same site. Unusual for St Emlion estates, its extensive underground cellars and winery are both located within the old walls of St-Emilion town opposite the main Post Office. Its 9.5 hectares of vineyards are situated northwest of the town on the St-Emilion ' Côtes ' and lie adjacent to the vineyards of Chateau Grand Mayne. The wine is a blend of 65% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes are fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel and concrete tanks and the wine is then matured in Oak barriques (33% new) for 15-18 months. The wine is bottled unfiltered. This Rare Bottle is in Mint Condition , has an Outstanding Provenance and is in Commercial Storage. This would make an Excellent 50th Birthday or Anniversary Gift. Thanks for looking.
