Listing Details

One 750ml bottle of the Excellent and Rare 1979 Vintage of Chateau Belair. Chateau Belair is the Excellent Premier Grand Cru Classe in the Saint Emilion appellation. It is the Sister Chateau and Neighbor to the Great Saint-Emilion, First Growth, Chateau Ausone - one of the Top Growths of Saint Emilion, along with Chateau Cheval-Blanc. This Outstanding 1979 Vintage has been Rated a High 92 Points by The Wine Spectator Magazine. Chateau Belair has 34.5 acres on the Cotes de Saint Emilion and makes Elegant wines, a shade Heartier than most St.Emilion Cotes properties, and has been Making Excellent wines in recent years. Chateau Belair, a St. Emilion Grand Cru Classe property is owned by Madame Dubois-Challon who is also co-owner of Chateau Ausone. Her late husband Jean purchased it in 1916. The same "regisseur" responsible for the rise in quality of the wines of Ausone over the past 20 years, the "philosopher-winemaker" Pascal Delbeck has also been responsible for improvements in quality at Belair. The 13-hectare Belair vineyard is situated mainly on the St. Martin limestone plateau and the average age of the vines is 35 years including some that were planted around 1900. The blend is typically 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc. The winemaking is Meticulous with the Grapes hand picked into plastic baskets then sorted, de-stalked, gently crushed and transferred into stainless steel tanks by way of a moving conveyor belt using a prototype machine known as the Vinosaur. The Wine is Aged in 60 per cent New Oak Barrels the Wood for which is selected and Dried in the Open Air at Chateau Belair. About 55,000 bottles are produced each year. Alfred Danflou said of Chateau Belair, ' Belair is the Chateau Lafite of the Cotes-Saint-Emilion.' The wines of Belair the last 25 years have been Ripe and Fragrant and have had Depth, Concentration and Elegance. This is the Style of the wine - Soft-Textured and Harmonious, with an Intensity and Concentration of Ripe Fruit. This Bottle is in Mint Condition and is in Commercial Storage. Thanks for looking.
